Byron Eugene Hamman

September 29, 1928 - December 6, 2016

BYRON “BUD” HAMMAN EVANSVILLE, INDIANA Byron “Bud” Eugene Hamman, 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Solarbron in Evansville. He was born to Lester and Thelma (Axer) Hamman in Independence, Kansas on September 29, 1928, the second of five children. He is survived by brothers Earl “Pete” Hamman (Marge) of Poseyville, Indiana, and Allen Hamman of Evansville; nephew Douglas Hamman (Jacki) of Wadesville, Indiana; nieces Donna Hills (Jim) of Lenoir City, Tennessee, Elizabeth Hostettler (John) of Blairsville, Indiana, and Susan Hostettler (Eric) of Poseyville, Indiana; and sister-in-law Josephine “Jo” Hamman of Poseyville, Indiana. In addition to his parents, Byron was preceded in death by a sister Margaret L. Hamman and a brother George E. Hamman. Byron spent his childhood years in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Illinois, and his family moved to Indiana in 1944. Following his Griffin High School graduation in 1946, he spent three years in the Army Air Corps as an airframe and engine mechanic in a squadron flying daily weather missions over the Atlantic Ocean. After his military stint, he earned an electronic engineering degree from Evansville College (U of E) in 1954. His 42-year engineering career was spent working on US Department of Defense aircraft communications equipment and ground-based radar systems. He resided in New Jersey, Oklahoma and Yuma, Arizona, where he remained upon his retirement. He relocated to Evansville in 2014. Byron excelled in baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, and golf. Golf was his passion and he made eighteen holes-in-one during his lifetime. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes and he had fished in numerous lakes, rivers, and streams across the US and Canada, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Heritage Hospice and Solarbron for the kindness, compassion, and excellent care provided to their brother and uncle. Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice, 1202 W. Buena Vista Road, Evansville, Indiana 47710. Private family services with full military rites will be held. Interment will be at the Poseyville Cemetary in Poseyville, Indiana.
