William Berry

September 16, 1941 - December 20, 2018

WILLIAM “BILL” DOC BERRY NEW HARMONY, INDIANA Bill left us suddenly on Thursday December 20th, 2018 at age 77, born Sept. 16, 1941 in New Harmony, Indiana, the first child of Ray E. & Catherine Clarice (Campbell) Berry. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathy, his brothers Joseph and Bob and his marvelous dog Moose. He is survived by his lovely wife Judith Ann (Neidig) of 55 Years, sister in law Phyllis Berry, niece Jo Hawes, nephew Scott Berry, grandnieces and grandnephew, cousins and good friends old and new. He graduated from Smith School and Wadesville High School, both here in Posey County, Indiana. Then he earned a BSEE degree from Evansville College. He worked in design engineering at Potter & Brumfield, Whirlpool, US Controls Corp., Eaton/Cutler Hammer, Deltrol Controls, and Rockwell/Allen Bradley. He was transferred up to Wisconsin. His early co-workers gave him the nickname “DOC” after an outing shooting birds. Graduation Day from Evansville College was also his Wedding Day to Judy on June 1st, 1964 at Olivet Presbyterian Church. Their first date was in a pickup truck borrowed from his Dad. He loved his life, worked hard and had few vices. He had previous brushes with death, but had always stared the Grimm Reaper down and kept going. He had occasional confrontations in his life, but he always lived out his philosophy “Never Look for Trouble-Never Run”. He liked airplanes, belonged to a Flying Club in Wisconsin, enjoyed fast cars (Corvettes), burly dogs, sleek horses, rodeos, country roads and Honky Tonk country music. He earned a Pilot’s License at age 25, bought an airplane at 29 and he loved to fly the rest of his days. Flying was travel, enjoyment, and stress relief. Bill logged over 4,000 hours of flight time. He liked to fly with the throttle wide open and tried to live his life the same way. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Warbirds of America, Experimental Aircraft Association, Mile High Club, Wyoming Wild Horse Foundation and the National Rifle Association. Bill’s motto was: “Under Radar-Over Trees-Go Fast”. He is now “GONE FLYING”. Funeral services will start at 1 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018 at Werry Funeral Home in New Harmony, Indiana with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden, 1545 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, Indiana 47720 or online at: www.meskerparkzoo.com/give/
